A note from the photographer, Andrew Willis.
I center my work around people who are liberated or desire to be liberated. I think a woman who is 70 years old and wears platform heels, dances and smokes is the most beautiful creature — the most liberated creature. She is not afraid of tomorrow. She is living in the now.
All photographs and video are from the last 8 months in my portfolio.
The most radical concept isn’t religion, ideology, or “race”. It’s French creativity—its ease with pleasure, style, and reinvention.
French creativity is not about what you make, its about experiences: experiencing the liberation of a rock-and-roll table at Maxime’s in the 8e with “La Femme”; “Fantasma” at the Folies Bergère in the 9e hosted by Allanah Starr; trading fashion finds with and taking photos of fashion students and models in the 4e at “L’Arena”; dancing in a tuxedo at L’Arc with the bourgeoisie (and letting the finance husbands pick up the tab). It’s late dinners at Hôtel Costes with Vincent Pressiat. walking through the 6e during the day and wondering “what is Charlotte Gainsbourg making next?” — or walking along Saint-Honoré and looking at fashion empires wondering “what is Carine Roitfeld styling right now?".
Paris isn’t just a city: It’s the center of gravity. And CR Fashion Book is our sacred text.
I like movement, geometry, flickering lights, sparks, smoke and mirrors, silk, naked bodies, dancing, shadows, high heels, black and white, gold, french-electro, rock and roll, and mystery.
I do not like to force a world or a character onto a person. That is how you get bad magazine covers and editorials of actors trying to sell a persona the public does not want to believe. I love spending time with subjects, stylists, and creative authorities and collaborating to make a world and a moment come to life. And doing it with purpose to drive connection between brands and their products and the customers who believe in them.
CR Fashion Book promotes a worldview that is sexy, chic, and daring.
CR Fashion Book is the centre of fashion
I met Jad at Silencio in Paris about a year ago. We stayed in touch, and when I returned to paris a year later, he invited me to his home in Saint-Germain-des-Pres. I photographed him between everyday rituals—cooling off with ice after a workout, eating an apple, reading, napping, juggling fruit in front of the Invalides.
He would be impeccable in a traditional shoot for a brand, but these personal images are my favourite images because they feel unguarded: sexy, carefree, and quietly complex. In an industry shaped by precision and polish, there’s real value—for talent and brands alike—in showing something intimate and human.
That’s what I bring: genuine connection, ease, and a portfolio that captures people at their most comfortable—so audiences don’t just see the image, they feel close to the moment.
CR Fashion Book is all about telling stories with a diverse portfolio of creatives that captivate audiences.
Andrew Willis has a background in television production, directing, photography, and working with cross-functional creative teams. He is currently looking to support CR Fashion Book in their creative projects to build a lasting relationship.
I would like to mentor with CR Fashion book, Ms. Roitfeld and her team because it would support and care for my worldview that wants to see more luxury… more “noir”, sexy chic, warholian-fast creative turn-around, global professionalism, and purpose-led projects for brands that see creativity and risk as a growth opportunity.
Should an employee or affiliate of CR Fashion Book be interested in doing a private and confidential zoom meeting with me before I return to paris, please send me an email to set up a date and time that works for you and yours.
